Thank You Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

You showed us what is possible when people come together, when people have great leaders, when love wins, when non violence is practiced-and so much more.

We are so grateful to this man and to all of the men and women who were brave enough to join him and to effect change that was long overdue in our United States.  Every day we remember and are inspired by his courage, integrity and strength.

Today, in a world which can feel so divided, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King's ability to see a world perspective and bring people together is inspirational and gives us hope.  He saw the interconnected world, which we still live in, and worked to make it better. He succeeded.  Perfection?  No. Better? Yes.

The list of his accomplishments in his short life are numerous.  One of the true miracles of this leader is that he did it all peacefully.  He believed in and practiced non violence.  This year we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of his assassination.  He had a dream.  We here at Mom's the Word will not let that dream die.  We do what we can in our individual lives and at work to practice the principals taught by MLK.  As a company we donate monthly to the SPLC and EJI in the work that they continue to do to make our country and this world a better place.

And then, there are so many words that he left us to live by.  Too many to quote them all, so, we share a few of our favorites and we commit today and every day to bear them in mind:

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?

The time is always right to do what is right.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
