Where can I find a sizing chart?

We represent up to 50 different designers at any time, and they don’t all fit the same. Heck, sometimes two tops from the same designer don’t fit the same! So instead of one sizing chart, look on the product page for the Sizing Stuff section—that’s where we’ll help you figure out what size you are in that particular item.

Should I order a size up?

You may need to bump up a size in some things... and sometimes we will recommend that you size down—just check the Sizing Stuff section under each item. Trust us. We know what we’re doing.

Do you have any guidelines for Shopping While Pregnant (SWP)?

Generally speaking you will wear the same size pregnant that you do when you aren’t pregnant. We know, we know! You’re bigger! But our (if we do say so ourselves) insanely well-curated selection is designed with your silhouette in mind, so, with a few exceptions (and they are noted in the Sizing Stuff section), everything in our stores and on our site will take you very happily from mini bump to way beyond—forever in fact. So, sit back, relax and go shopping. Remember, you’re pregnant, you are supposed to be growing.

When will my order ship?

We work hard to get your order out the same day it is placed. If your order is received before noon PST, it will usually be shipped the same day. If it is received after noon, it will ship the next day.

What are your shipping options?

$7 USPS Flat Rate Shipping within the Continental US (excludes Hawaii and Alaska)

  • Typically delivered within 2-10 business days for orders placed Monday-Friday by 12pm PST
  • Delivery takes place Monday-Saturday. (Not on Sundays)
  • Orders placed on Friday/Saturday: we still try to process and get out same day, but because there is no postal service on Sunday it might not go out until Monday.


$10 UPS Flat Rate on Ground Shipping on orders under $250 (excludes Hawaii and Alaska)

  • Typically delivered within 2-10 business days for orders placed Monday-Friday by 12pm PST
  • Delivery takes place Monday-Friday. (Not on weekends or holidays)
  • UPS Orders cannot be delivered to PO boxes


$30 UPS Flat Rate on Ground Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska

  • Typically delivered within 2-10 business days for orders placed Monday-Friday by 12pm PST
  • Delivery takes place Monday-Friday. (Not on weekends or holidays)
  • Orders cannot be delivered to PO boxes.
  • And, no, they don’t drive to Hawaii, we’re not sure why they call it “ground.”

Where is my order shipping from?

We ship out of Southern California, so, if you live in SoCal your order will usually arrive a day or two after it has been processed. We work hard to process orders within 24 hours. We usually succeed, but some days you guys keep us very busy! If you live in LA pretty please do not ship 2 Day Air as your parcel will never see the inside of a plane.

How long will it take my order to arrive?

Ground delivery generally takes from 2 to 10 business days depending on where you are: West Coast usually takes 2-4 days. Traveling east, it will take anywhere from 4-10 days depending on where you are, so, go for it and choose expedited shipping so you can get your goodies faster!

Please keep in mind that UPS does not deliver on weekends, even for rushed shipping options, so if you place a “Next Day Air” order Thursday after business hours, or Friday, it may not arrive to you until Monday.

Do you charge tax?

Yes! UPS shipments are sent Carbon Neutral (costs us an extra 5 cents, which seems worth it to us, and we do not pass this on to you).

Please do not expect your delivery to arrive in a perfect new box—we recycle and reuse. However, if you are ordering a gift to be shipped, the gift box will be pretty and perfect. :)

Do you care about the environmental impact of shipping?

Orders shipped within California will be charged sales tax. It’s the law. Outside CA, we will not charge sales and use tax. Also, the law.

Can I return my online order?

Yes! We wish we could say that we always get it right, and in our physical stores we almost always do... but, online is harder, that’s just a fact.

  • It might seem obvious, so, forgive us, but merchandise must be unworn; in its original and resalable condition; in its original packaging if packaged and with all tags attached. All Sale items (anything marked at a price lower than its original price) are FINAL SALE—no exceptions.
  • Send it back to us within 21 days of original receipt date for a full refund. If we receive your return after 21 days of original receipt date, a 25% restocking fee will be charged and deducted from your final credit.
  • Wedding gowns may be exchanged for size or returned within 14 days of delivery date.


How do I return my order?

Can I return my online order at one of your stores?

Yes. You can drop off your online order to one of our stores along with a completed return form. Web management will be contacted, your return will be processed and your credit card refunded within 72 hours.

What happens when you receive my return?

We strive to process your returns as quickly as we do your orders. Your card will be credited as soon as we receive and process the return. Some credit card companies take longer to process refunds than they do to process sales. If you do not see the credit after you have received an email from us stating that the return has been processed you can feel free to contact us, but, really, you will have to call your bank or credit card company.

What is your in-store exchange policy?

  • Items in new condition with tags attached can be exchanged within 14 days for an item or items of equal or greater value, or exchanged for a store credit which can be used at our San Francisco store, Palo Alto store or Los Angeles store. Store credits never expire.
  • All Sale items (anything which you purchased for any sum less than the original price) are final sale-no exceptions.
  • Evening wear may be exchanged for size only.
  • Intimates are final sale.

Is everything you carry maternity?

No! About 70% of our selection is NOT maternity (but all will work for your belly)! We go to great lengths to find the best pieces for your wardrobe: quality, fit and of course, style! Is all of my information safe when I order online?

  • We neither sell nor share your information with outside companies or third parties. When you purchase from our online store, we collect your name, billing and shipping addresses, phone number, e-mail address, and credit card information. You provide this information so we can process and ship your order. We respect your privacy by not selling or sharing this information with anyone, anytime, under any circumstance. 
  • Protecting your information is our highest priority. We have developed several safeguards to keep your information completely confidential. To proceed to checkout, you must enter your e-mail address and create a password. The checkout process itself employs Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)* technology to ensure your safety.
  • *Secure Sockets Layer encrypts your order information and sends it to a secure server, making it impossible for that information to be decoded by a party outside of the store you shop with.
  • Furthermore, only our store will have your information; other members of the Modern Retail community will not have access to your information unless you decide to shop with them. To check the security of your connection during checkout, look for the unbroken key or closed lock at the bottom of your browser window. This indicates SSL is active.
